Controlled Burning Sends Smoke High Over Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst

JOINT BASE McGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, NJ — Large plumes of smoke rising from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst on Monday are the result of controlled burning, base officials said.

The base announced the burning on its Facebook page around noon on Monday, but as smoke rose high in the air, it caught the attention of residents in the area.

The Lakewood Scoop shared photos of large clouds of smoke in the area, and that prompted other social media posts about the smoke.
