Cop Killer Set To Appeal Conviction This Week: Report

The public defender's office says Jahmell Crockam's conviction for the murder of Christopher Matlosz should be overturned, the report says.

LAKEWOOD, NJ -- The man convicted of shooting and killing a Lakewood police officer as he sat in his patrol car is appealing that conviction, according to a report.

The Asbury Park Press reported that the state Public Defender’s Office will argue this week that the murder conviction of Jahmell W. Crockam should be overturned.

Christopher Matlosz, a 27-year-old Lakewood police officer, was killed Jan. 14, 2011 when Crockam shot him three times in the head at close range as Matlosz sat in his patrol car on a Lakewood street. Crockam was convicted of the murder in 2012.
