Coronavirus: Lakehurst School Dismissing Early For Lesson Prep

The school will dismiss early so staff can prepare for the possibility of educating students remotely if a closure due to the virus happens.

LAKEHURST, NJ — Lakehurst Elementary School will have half-day sessions through Friday so the school can make preparations for potential closures due to the coronavirus, the school announced.

There will be no aftercare program or basic skills instruction afterschool program. The school will dismiss at noon.

The early dismissal days are a result of a state Department of Education order to all school districts to prepare plans for educating students if the school is ordered to close by health officials. Read more: NJ Coronavirus Updates: Here's What You Need To Know

School officials said the state health department also has said children showing any of these signs of illness must be kept home (including but not limited to):

  • Coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Fever
  • Sore Throat
  • Vomiting

Children must be kept home until they are no longer symptomatic. If a child attends school with any of these symptoms, parents will be contacted to pick up the child immediately.
