Dog Saved, But Fire Displaces Manchester Residents: Police

Breaking: The fire caused significant smoke damage in the home, police said.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Firefighters rescued a dog from a Baltimore Avenue home that was left uninhabitable by a fire Thursday, Manhcester police said.

The fire was reported about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Manchester Police Lt. Vincent Manco said. Officers Richard Chevrier, George Smith, and Steve Hankins responded to a report of a possible structure fire in the Roosevelt City section of Whiting and found heavy smoke coming from the rear of the home, Manco said.

It was quickly determined that the residence was unoccupied, except for a dog which was removed by firefighters and subsequently taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment, he said.

The Manchester Township building inspector responded and ultimately deemed the residence uninhabitable due to heavy smoke damage, Manco said.

At this time the origin of the fire has not yet been determined and the incident is being investigated by Manchester Townshipo Detective Adam Emmons and the Ocean County Fire Marshal's office, he said.

Assisting at the scene were the Manchester Office of Emergency Management, Manchester Fire Company, Whiting Fire Company, Ridgeway Fire Company, Bamber Lake Fire Company, and the New Egypt Fire Company.
