Final Step in Renaissance Access Road Put in Place

The Manchester Township Council on July 8 approved an ordinance that literally paves the way for the developer of the Renaissance senior citizen housing development, Stavola Contracting Company, to build a Route 547 access road for residents.

In the ordinance, the township agreed to perform light maintenance and snow plowing for the access road, as needed.

"This is the culmination of years of negotiating between the developer and homeowners," said Township Business Administrator Elena Zsoldos.  "They'll be required to post some bonds and they're committed to constructing the road."

Zsoldos said when the development was originally being built, there was an understanding the developer would install an access road.  However, the developer thought the road would just be used for emergencies.

"The community wanted the road for back and forth access," said Zsoldos.  "We want to bring it to grade for regular traffic."

She said the Township intervened in an effort to get the road installed.  The developer agreed if the township would take responsibility for light maintenance of the road.

Residents at the July 8 Council meeting thanked the governing body for its help.

Zsoldos said there is no time frame for the work to be done; the agreement only specifies that the work be done in a reasonable amount of time.
