Forest Wildfire Fully Contained On Ocean-Burlington Border: Officials

MANCHESTER, NJ — A wildfire on the border of Ocean and Burlington counties was 100 percent contained Monday morning, officials said.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service said the fire in the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest burned 315 acres of forest in the Pine Barrens, and was completely under control as of 10 a.m. The cause remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported. For a brief period on Sunday afternoon seven structures were threatened by the fire. By 11 p.m. Sunday fire crews determined they were no longer threatened, fire officials said.

Forest fire crews will remain at the site of the fire near Pasadena Road to keep improving containment lines and to monitor the area to ensure public safety, officials said.

Residents may see and smell smoke for several hours, they said.

The fire comes a week after a wildfire that authorities say started with an illegal campfire consumed more than 13,500 acres in the Wharton State Forest along the Mullica River. There were no injuries in that fire.
