JOINT BASE McGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, NJ — Get ready for rumbles and booms: training at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst is expected to be loud in the next several days.

The base's training calendar shows high noise levels are expected Sunday, Monday and Wednesday, with medium noise levels Saturday and Tuesday.

High noise levels can shake homes near the base and cause rumbles heard for miles when the weather acoustics are favorable. Low cloud cover can cause the sound to travel longer distances.

The high noise levels are generated when training involves firing mortars, training with Howitzers and using cratering explosives, the base says. The noise levels also can be affected by the location on the base where the firing range is in use.

The calendar does not say what hours the training will be conducted.
