Head-On Crash Kills 3, Injures 1 In Ocean County

The crash late Sunday night shut down Route 539 for several hours, authorities said.

PLUMSTED, NJ — Three people were killed and a fourth person was injured in a head-on crash late Sunday night in Plumsted, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Monday.

No information on ages, gender, names or hometowns of those in the crash were released Monday morning.

The crash was reported about 11:50 p.m. on Route 539, also known as Pinehurst Road in Plumsted, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Investigators determined a Ford Bronco was headed north on Route 539 when it crossed over the double yellow line and hit a Toyota Sienna head-on, the prosecutor's office said.

The driver of the Toyota and two passengers in it died at the scene, the prosecutor's office said.

The driver of the Bronco was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where he is listed as stable, the prosecutor's office said.

Route 539 was closed for several hours as a result of the crash, according to Manchester police and the Ocean County Sheriff's Office.

The crash remains under investigation by the Major Crime Unit-Vehicular Homicide Squad of the prosecutor's office, Plumsted Township police and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit.
