JOINT BASE McGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, NJ — December is starting off with a boom ... several of them, actually, as training at the Joint Base sent rumbles around Ocean County on Wednesday.

The Joint Base released its monthly noise level calendar, which shows anticipated noise levels from training that is scheduled at the base.

The levels range from slight to abundant, with the abundant noise generally attributable to mortar and howitzer training. Cloud cover and weather can affect how far the sound travels from the base, and there have been multiple occasions where the training noise was heard 30 miles away or more.
