Mortars produce very loud explosions, the base notes.
"Please note, that cloudy or overcast weather can amplify the noise, and cause it to travel further. The Joint Base is committed to being a good neighbor, and we SO greatly appreciate the support, cooperation and understanding of the surrounding communities as we work to ensure America's fighting force is trained up!" a statement from the base said.
