Lacey Man Facing Drug Charges Punches Holes In Wall At Lakehurst PD: Chief

An Ocean Gate woman also was arrested in the incident; police said she had 25 doses of heroin.

LAKEHURST, NJ — Police say a Lacey man who is facing drug charges after a motor vehicle stop in Lakehurst punched holes in the sheetrock in the booking room during his arrest Monday.

Luis Garcia, 23, was arrested after a traffic stop that happened about 9 p.m. Monday when the driver of a 2004 Volvo was pulled over on Route 37 for failing to maintain the lane of travel, Lakehurst Police Chief Eric Higgins said.

During the traffic stop, Lakehurst Officer Jason Guide found Garcia, the front-seat passenger, was under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, and during a subsequent search and found him to be in possession of heroin and a hypodermic needle, Higgins said.

In addition, Gabriele Tyrrell, 21, of Ocean Gate, the back-seat passenger, was found to be in possession of 25 bags of heroin and marijuana, Higgins said, and both she and Garcia were arrested.

The driver of the vehicle was issued a summons for failure to maintain his lane and released at the scene, Higgins said.

Garcia and Tyrrell were taken to Lakehurst Police Headquarters for processing, Higgins said, and Garcia became violent, punching the wall in the booking room putting holes in the sheetrock, he said.

Garcia was charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a hypodermic needle, being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and criminal mischief, Higgins said. Garcia is being held at the Ocean County Jail, Toms River.

Tyrrell was charged with possession of heroin, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia and she was released with a summons, Higgins said.
