Lakehurst Holds First Weekly Summer Farmers Market

Vendors from all over the local area came out Sunday to showcase their products at the inaugural weekly summer farmers market in Lakehurst. 

“The market was very successful for the first week we were open," said Janie Baranyay, one of the event organizers. "We want our residents to have a health lifestyle and this fits with our vision of a healthy community." 

The market, which is held at , will be open on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. until early September and is hosted by the Lakehurst Revitalization Association, according to Baranyay.

Vegetables, fruits, baked goods and honey were just a few of the products for sale.

“People need to get used to us being here. Things will pick up later on, this is still a work in progress,” Christina Krowicki of Krowicki Farms said. “This is a great location right near the lake, homes and senior centers."

Other vendors also felt the turnout for the first weekly event was strong. 

“This was a pleasant surprise for the first week of the event,” said Laura McWeeney, an intern for Angel Cakes of Toms River.

According to Lisa Vazquez, one of the owners of Angel Cakes, the table had sold out twice while they were there. The hours are "perfect for baked goods," Vazquez said.

"Because we are so close to our shop, we can have fresh, hot goods delivered in a matter of minutes to put out,” she said. “What makes these markets great is that everyone brings their best stuff. We all also work together, which is nice. It’s a great sense of camaraderie among the vendors here.”

The market is also host to Trapper’s Honey, who have won several awards at beekeeping shows and are going to be selling their award-winning products. These include raw honey, pure beeswax as well as their honey spread.

“Lakehurst is gaining a great thing with the introduction of this farmers market," Baranyay said. "There are a few farm markets in the area, but the closest actual farmers market is up in Toms River. This brings fresh products to our neighbors' backyards."
