Lakehurst Man Charged After Punching Police Officer In Face

LAKEHURST, NJ — A Lakehurst man has been charged with aggravated assault after he punched a police officer in the face following a motor vehicle stop, police said.

Vince Aiello, 41, was arrested July 11 following the stop on Route 70 shortly before 9 p.m., police said.

Several callers told police they had seen an erratic driver on Route 70 and Police Officer Vance Pelino saw the driver a short time later and pulled him over in the area of Elm Street and Hibernia Avenue, police said.

During the stop, Aiello was asked to get out of the vehicle for further investigation, and he became uncooperative and tried to get back in the vehicle, punching a police officer in the face in the process, police said. After a brief struggle he was arrested, police said.

Police then searched the vehicle and found a machete in the passenger area, officials said. ]

Aiello was charged with obstruction, aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, failure to maintain lane, failure to signal, and delaying traffic. Aiello was processed and released on a summons in accordance with bail reform, police said.
