Lakehurst Man Facing Marijuana Distribution Charges: Police

When he was pulled over for a motor vehicle violation, police found 5 ounces of the drug in his car, police said.

LAKEHURST, NJ — A Lakehurst man is facing drug distribution charges after police found 5 ounces of marijuana in his car during a motor vehicle stop, Police Chief Eric Higgins said.

Chandler Jackson, 26, of Lakehurst was arrested Monday evening after Sgt. Matthew Kline pulled over the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu on Route 70 because it had tinted windows, Higgins said. A computer check also showed the registered owner had an expired driver's license, he said.

While he was talking to the driver, Jackson, Kline detected the strong odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle, Higgins said. Kline, the department’s drug recognition expert, also observed that Jackson was manifesting symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, he said.

A search of the Malibu by Kline resulted in the seizure of about 5 ounces of marijuana packaged for sale, and further investigation uncovered that Jackson had more marijuana at his home, Higgins said.

Kline and Officer Jason Guide went to Jackson's Oak Street home, where he turned over another large quantity of marijuana along with materials used to package the marijuana for sale, he said.

Jackson was charged with possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, being under the influence of a CDS, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, driving on an expired license, and having tinted windows, Higgins said.

Jackson is being held at the Ocean County Jail, Toms River, in lieu of $25,000 bail, no 10 percent, as set by Judge Damian Murray.

The Lakehurst Police Department seized the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu he was operating for civil forfeiture, Higgins said.
