Lakehurst Teens Charged With Marijuana Distribution

A police raid netted several potted plants as well as other materials, police chief says.

Two teenagers from Lakehurst are facing drug charges after police found several marijuana plants and other items associated with drug distribution in the basement of a Lakehurst woman’s home, police said.

Lakehurst police executed a search warrant on a Lake Street home July 7 after an investigation into marijuana distribution and found several potted marijuana plants growing under artificial lighting and other materials associated with marijuana distribution in the home’s basement, Policer Chief Eric Higgins said.

Arrested were a 17-year-old from Lakehurst and Kyle Sloan,18, also from Lakehurst. The 17-year-old was charged with distribution of marijuana in a school zone, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sloan was charged with being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, Higgins said.

The homeowner, Ramona Ford, 49, was charged with driving while intoxicated after she returned to the house after being notified the search warrant was being executed there and officers on the scene detected she was under the influence and arrested her, he said.

The 17-year-old juvenile was released to a guardian and Kyle Sloan was released on a summons, Higgins said.

Sgt. Matthew Kline was the investigating officer. The Lakehurst Police Department was assisted by members of the Manchester Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Ocean County Sheriffs Office K-9 unit, he said.
