Letter To The Editor: Manchester Mayor's Race Challenger Makes Hollow Promises

Promises mean drastic cuts, show lack of understanding, writer says

Dear Sir/Madam:

I am a conservative, but do not vote along party lines and consider myself a knowledgeable voter who understands the issues. I read with some curiosity and I admit some skepticism statements made by Mayor Fressola’s challenger in this upcoming municipal election. Mayor Fressola’s challenger said he will lower taxes by 10 percent. Seventy-five percent of our property taxes go to the schools and the county, lowering the municipal tax rate by 10 percent would be the equivalent of losing one-quarter of the police force or one-half of the public works department, it would also result in DRASTIC cuts to senior services.

The challenger said he will bring commercial taxpayers into the township. Perhaps he has not noticed the new STS facilities on both sides of town, the Dunkin Donuts, the Quick Chek and other businesses, including banks and professional offices that have been established in Mayor Fressola’s tenure. This does not count the Lowe’s, the Applebee’s and other businesses that have come into town in past years. The challenger’s statement is curious since his own business is in Lakehurst and he does not own a single piece of property in Manchester.

The challenger said he will lobby state legislators. Perhaps he does not know that our former and current state senators have endorse Mayor Fressola and the Continued Good Government team. Good politicians work for their constituents. Bad politicians make hollow promises.

Sincerely,
