MANCHESTER, NJ — A man was killed Saturday night when he was hit by two vehicles while crossing Ridgeway Road, Manchester Township police said Sunday.
Paul Mount, 45, was hit in the northbound lane of Ridgeway Road, also known as County Route 571, as he was crossing near the intersection with Washington Avenue, Manchester Capt. James Komsa said.
Officers immediately started to perform lifesaving measures on Mount, who was lying in the road, but he died at the scene, Komsa said.

The two vehicles, a black 2018 Ford Explorer and a black 2021 Toyota Highlander, were at the scene and both had minimal damage, he said.
The investigation showed that Mount was crossing Ridgeway Road but was not in a marked crosswalk, and was hit by the Ford and then the Toyota, which was behind the Ford, as he stepped into the left lane, Komsa said.

The Ford was driven by a 21-year-old from Jackson, and he had two passengers; the Toyota was driven by a 27-year-old, whose hometown was not given. None suffered physical injuries in the crash, he said.
Assisting at the scene were members of the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Department, Emergency Medical Technicians from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Komsa said, along with detectives from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigations Unit and a representative from the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by Patrolman Michael O’Hara of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
