Manchester Assisted Living Employee Steals Clients' Jewelry: PD
Tina Sloan, 48, is accused pawning more than 100 pieces of jewelry and of stealing cash as well, police said.
MANCHESTER, NJ – Tina Sloan was supposed to be helping to care for the elderly residents of the assisted care facility where she worked.
But police say Sloan instead used her access to steal and pawn more than 100 pieces of jewelry from those residents, and on Thursday arrested the 48-year-old woman.
Manchester Capt. Todd Malland said Sloan had been employed at The Haven at Silverwoods, an assisted living facility on Route 37. On Sept. 25, police were called by the administrator at the facility about a theft, and police took several reports from residents who said money and jewelry had been taken, Malland said.

After several reports were taken, Detective David Fusaro of the department’s Investigations Bureau began working on the case, and began focusing on the jewelry, as many of the victims reported missing jewelry, he said.
Malland said Fusaro began searching through various law enforcement databases and intelligence sources for pawn activity matching the description of the items stolen. Fusaro was able to narrow the possible suspects to a small group of people who had sold items that had descriptions similar to ones reported stolen by the victims, and were pawned during the time frame in which they had been stolen.

Those names were then compared to the employee roster from The Haven at Silverwoods, leading to the identification of Sloan, Malland said.
Additional searches revealed that Sloan had completed 59 pawn transactions during 2017 and had sold more than 100 pieces of jewelry, he said.
Fusaro, armed with that information, began the daunting task of meeting with each resident of the facility in an attempt to identify additional stolen items and victims, Malland said. "Numerous additional victims were located," he said.
Although several victims have been located and numerous jewelry items sold by Sloan identified, Manchester police believe there may still be additional unidentified victims, Malland said.
Anyone who lived in The Haven at Silverwoods at any point during 2017, and who believes that they may have been the victim of a theft should contact Detective. David Fusaro at 732-657-2009 ext. 4208., Malland said.
