Manchester Bicyclist Suffers Head Injury in Collision

Doug Williams was not wearing a helmet when his bicycle was hit along Commonwealth Boulevard by Jeremy Zapata of Toms River

A Manchester man was taken to the hospital with a head injury after a collision between his bicycle and a pickup truck on Commonwealth Boulevard on Sunday, police said.

Doug Williams, 50, of the Pine Lake Park section, was riding his bicycle along Commonwealth Boulevard about 4:40 p.m. on Sunday when he was hit by a 2003 GMC Sonoma pickup driven by Jeremias Zapata, 23, of Toms River, said Capt. Lisa Parker, spokewoman for the Manchester Township Police Department. Zapata was trying to turn from Second Street onto Commonwealth Boulevard at the time of the accident, Parker said.

Williams was not wearing a helmet and sustained a head injury, Parker said. He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center by the Manchester First Aid squad, with assistance from MONOC paramedics, she said. Zapata was uninjured.
