Manchester Council Set For Virtual Meeting

MANCHESTER, NJ — The Manchester Township Council will hold Monday's meeting virtually via Zoom, the township announced Monday.

The move comes as the number of coronavirus cases in Manchester and in Ocean County have risen significantly in the last month. Ocean County has added more than 3,600 positive cases since Sept. 26, rising to 16,456 as of Sunday from 12,825. Manchester has 77 new cases in that timeframe, from 940 to 1,017 as of Sunday, according to figures from the Ocean County Health Department.

Hospitalizations have risen in recent weeks, and on Monday there were 948 people hospitalized with the coronavirus; of those, 178 patients were in intensive care and 75 were on ventiliators, Gov. Phil Murphy said.

Murphy on Saturday extended New Jersey's public health emergency amid the coronavirus crisis for the seventh time as the state reported its highest daily case number in five months.

Monday's Manchester Township Council meeting will begin at 6 p.m. on Zoom. The agenda includes three ordinances set for final reading and approval. One authorizes the town to sell property at 1333 10th Ave.; one authorizes leasing property to the Kokes Community Gardens, and the third approves the township's purchase of a lot at 3576 Ridgeway Road for open space.
