Manchester Cub Scouts Collect 200 Bags Of Food For Needy

The annual Scouting for Food drive is a service project conducted across the country by Scouts of all ages.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Manchester Pack 44 Cub Scouts got a big lesson in the generosity of their community this holiday season, collecting more than 200 bags of food during its Scouting for Food drive.

The Manchester effort was one of hundreds of collections around the country the weekend before Thanksgiving, one of many service projects conducted by Scouts each year.

The Manchester area drive, led by Todd Petersen and Caroline Tripodi, distributed bags to homes on Nov. 12, then picked up bags filled with canned goods, dry goods and other items on Nov. 19, according to the Scouting for Food webpage.

Pack 44 Cub Scouts place bags on a mailbox the week before the collection drive.

"St. John's Church was overwhelmed with excitement to see just how much our boys collected within one week," Pack 44 Committee chairperson Jayme Perlman said.

One of Scouting’s driving principles is “doing a good turn daily,” the Scouting for Food site notes, and the Scouting for Food drive is one of the ways Scouts at all levels are able to help their communities.
