Manchester Family Works To Raise Funds As Mother Battles Breast Cancer

Maria Lawson hopes folks will come by to purchase baked goods during the Pine Lake Park community-wide garage sale.

MANCHESTER, NJ — When you're wandering the streets of Pine Lake Park this coming weekend, looking for deals and hidden treasure at the community-wide yard sale, take a moment to swing by 1833 Sixth Ave.

You'll find yummy baked treats that Maria Lawson is offering for sale.

But this isn't just so she can sweeten her wallet; Lawson's bake sale has a whole different purpose: To raise funds to help her mother pay medical bills as she battles breast cancer.

Lawson said her mother, Maria Romano, was diagnosed with breast cancer on April 27, and in the months since the diagnosis has been through two surgeries and currently is undergoing radiation.

"I am trying to help with the medical bills as much as I can so she can focus on beating this horrible disease," Lawson said.
