Manchester Honors Senior Class at Awards Night

More than 250 people attended Senior Class Awards Thursday night, where 77 students were honored for their outstanding academic achievements.

Honors were given based on academic rank, departmental excellence and certain extracurricular accomplishments. Departmental awards included ROTC, Art, Business, English, Home Economics, Math, Music-Vocal, Peer Leadership, Music-Instrumental, Social Studies, TV Production, Health and Physical Education, Science, Technology, World Languages, and Journalism.

Principal Alexander George kicked off the night and gave the welcome and introduction for award presenters, including board of education members and Superintendent of Schools David Trethaway.

The top 10 students for the class of 2012: Lauren Beck, Emily Spiel, Mary Arsenault, Athan Bandoy, Dylan Citron, Victoria Gordon, Kevin Malloy, Amber Smith, Shannon Jirkovsky and Lisa Walsh.

Next, students were honored for their outstanding achievement by department:

Taylor LeCompte, Art; Ryan Kenny, Business; Lauren Beck, English; Stephanie Webster, Home Economics; Pedro Rubio, Instrumental Music; Marc Stutler, Journalism; Emily Spiel, Mathematics; Kevin Tan, NJROTC; Korey Tomei and Lester Ward, Peer Leadership; Daniel McLaughlin, Physical Education; Lauren Beck, Science and Social Studies; Ryan Meise and Lester Ward, Technology; Cassidy Gobel, Vocal Music; Shannon Jirkovsky, World Language (French); and Lisa Walsh, World Language (Spanish).

Some of the scholarships awarded were the Crozier Memorial Scholarship, Emily Holterhoff Scholarship, Guidance Secretary Scholarship, U.S. Marine Corp. Academic Excellence, Enroth Memorial Scholarship, Manchester Township Mayor’s Community Service Award and Manchester Township Mayor’s Future Municipal Leader Award.
