Manchester Man Admits Using Meth Before Toms River Crash: Police

Ron Carr told police he had used the drug at 4 a.m., five hours before he apparently dozed off and hit a utility pole, police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Manchester Township man is facing drug charges after he admitted to having used methamphetamine before his car crashed into a utility pole on Route 166 on Sunday morning, Toms River police said.

Ron Carr, 33, was driving north on Route 166 when he veered off the road just north of Albert Avenue and hit the pole, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

Carr was not injured, but a passenger in his vehicle was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Messina said.

Carr told police he believed he fell asleep and drifted off the road before the crash, and then admitted to using methamphetamine about 4 a.m. Sunday, Messina said.

He was charged with possession of CDS and received traffic citations for careless driving and driving without a license, she said.

The crash remains under investigation by Toms River Police Officer Scott Fallano.
