Manchester Man Dies After Route 70 Motorcycle Crash

Police said he suffered a severe leg injury in the crash after his motorcycle hit a street sign.

MANCHESTER, NJ — A Manchester Township man died Thursday night when he was thrown from his motorcycle after it hit a street sign along Route 70, police said.

Lawrence Foca, 73, was found along the side of Route 70 following the crash that happened shortly after 9 p.m., Manchester Capt. Vincent Manco said.

Foca was riding a 2007 Harley Davidson FXD east on Route 70 when he ran off the road in the area of Pleasant Valley Road, Manco said.

The motorcycle hit a street sign and Foca was thrown from the bike, which kept going, overturning several times before hitting a tree and coming to rest in the road.

Foca, who was incapacitated when police arrived, was wearing a Department of Transportation-approved helmet at the time of the crash and sustained a severe leg injury, Manco said. Manchester EMS took Foca to Community Medical Center in Toms River, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead, Manco said.

Assisting were the Ocean County Sherriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, MONOC Paramedics, and members of the Manchester Emergency Medical Services.

Sgt. Ian Bole and Patrolman Connor Yatauro are investigating.
