Manchester Man Injured As Car Rear-Ends Motorcycle, Police Say

Anthony Leone, 18, was thrown from the motorcycle by the impact, police said.

A Manchester was injured Wednesday night when his motorcycle was hit from behind by a car, throwing him from the motorcycle, Manchester police said.

Anthony Leone, 18, of Manchester, suffered injuries to his left art in the incident, which happened about 9:10 p.m. in the area of Lansdowne Road and Route 547, near Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, Manchester Capt. Todd Malland said.

Police responding to the accident learned that a green 1998 Mercury Mystique was southbound on Route 547 when it collided with the back of a red 1996 Suzuki motorcycle, which was stopped at the intersection at the time, Malland said.

The motorcycle slid about 25 feet on its side after being hit, coming to rest in the southbound lane of Route 547, Malland said, and the impact caused Leone to be thrown from the motorcycle.

The driver of the car, James Applegate, 49, of Manchester, was not injured, Malland said.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Police, the Joint Base First Aid Squad, and the Manchester Volunteer First Aid Squad, he said. Patrolman Ian Bole of the Manchester Township Traffic Safety Unit is investigating.
