Manchester Man 'Stable' After Truck Rolls Over His Head: Police

MANCHESTER, NJ — A Manchester man was seriously injured Wednesday evening when his pickup truck rolled off a ramp, hit him and rolled over his head, Manchester police said Thursday.

Robert Braden Jr., 48, of Whiting, was listed in stable condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, on Thursday, Manchester Capt. Todd Malland said.

Police said Braden was loading a disabled truck onto a trailer attached to a blue 1988 Kenworth tri-axle dump truck when the accident happened, about 6:30 p.m. on Elizabeth Avenue, Malland said.

Braden had used a 1996 red Ford F-350 pickup to push the disabled truck onto the trailer, then parked his pickup partially up the ramps and got out to secure the disabled truck to the trailer, Malland said.

As Braden stood behind the pickup truck on the ramps, it rolled backward, hit him and threw him to the ground, where one of the rear tires rolled over part of his head, Malland said.

Braden was airlifted to Jersey Shore, Malland said.

Assisting at the scene were EMTs from Quality Medical Transport as well as MONOC paramedics. This crash is being investigated by Ian Bole of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.
