Manchester Middle School Needs Your Votes To Win $25K Grant

MANCHESTER, NJ — Manchester Township Middle School is trying to win a $25,000 grant for its physical education program through a contest sponsored by ShopRite and Dannon yogurt titled "Project Fit America."

The grant will be awarded to the top four schools out of 70 that receive the most online votes, according to the contest.

"You may not have students in the middle school or even the elementary school but this award would be a wonderful addition to all of the other programs we have here in Manchester," Manchester Township Middle School Principal Nancy Driber said. "Please take a few minutes to help us if you can!"

Manchester Township Middle School would use the grant for physical education outdoor and indoor equipment, a new physical education curriculum and teacher training for its full implementation, the district said.

Voting is under way and will continue through Feb. 28.

You can vote one time per email address per day every day of the contest. (So if you have multiple email addresses, you can vote via each one once per day.) You must be 13 years of age to vote.

Manchester organizers said they need about 500 votes per day to be competitive.

Project Fit America "is a national nonprofit organization that creates and donates exemplary fitness in education programming to elementary and middle schools. They address self-esteem, fitness and exercise as fun, understanding the body, as well as leadership, sportsmanship and character development," the contest website says. "They strive to reverse the lack of fitness in youth by giving teachers the tools they need to help children take responsibility for their fitness and embrace healthy lifestyle choices with enthusiasm. Working with schools provides the opportunity to build programs that can serve generations of children. Project Fit America creates the opportunity for all kids, not just the already gifted athletes, to discover, explore, improve and be recognized for their physical, mental and fitness efforts and performance."
