Manchester Officer Bitten While Chasing Suspect In Heroin Deal: Police

The man ran through several backyards to try to escape, police said.

Manchester, NJ — A Manchester Township man has been arrested after a chase through yards in the Pine Lake Park section that led to one police officer being bitten by a dog, Manchester police said Tuesday.

Ahmid Fisher, 24, of 12th Avenue, has been charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of heroin, loitering for the purpose of selling CDS, hindering apprehension and obstruction of justice after he was apprehended Friday, Manchester Lt. Vincent Manco said.

Manco said Fisher was observed by members of the Narcotics Enforcement Team attempting to sell heroin to another person in Pine Lake Park. As police made contact with Fisher, he took off, jumping fences and running through multiple backyards in the area of Bismark Street and 12th Avenue, Manco said.

During the chase, Fisher discarded an unspecified amount of heroin in the backyard of a home on 12th Avenue, Manco said, and once police arrested him, they conducted an extensive search until they found the heroin.

Manco said that during the chase through the backyards, one Manchester police officer was bitten in the leg by a dog described as a pitbull.

Fisher's bail was set at $6,500 with a 10 percent option, which Fisher posted at Manchester Police headquarters, and he was subsequently released on bail, Manco said.

Also assisting with this investigation were members of the Manchester Police Patrol Bureau which included Manchester Police K-9 Lynk, Manco said.
