UPDATE: Manchester Schools Closed For Feb. 9

MANCHESTER, NJ — (Update, 6:15 a.m.) Manchester Township schools are closed Thursday, the district announced.

The district initially planned a delayed opening, but changed that decision in the morning. A winter storm warning is in effect for Thursday throughout Ocean County and there is a possibility of at least 6 inches of snow.

The National Weather Service has issued the winter storm warning that begins at 4 a.m. on Thursday. Rain is expected to being after midnight and change over to sleet and then snow. Snowfall is expected to be heavy, as much as 2 inches per hour, the weather service said.

Manchester school officials said a decision about closing school will be announced between 6 and 6:30 a.m. if the weather warrants.

In addition to the Manchester schools, other local schools have announced delayed openings; some have announced closings:

The Ocean County Vocational Schools, including MATES, the Performing Arts Academy and the Academy of Law and Public Safety, are closed.

Donovan Catholic High School and St. Joseph's Elementary School are closed.

St. Rose High School is closed.

Saint John Vianney High School is closed. Students are to check their classes' Blackboards for Virtual Day folders with assignments. The completion of these assignments will negate the need for a make-up day later on in the school year. Back-to-School Night is canceled. Parents, please check your child's Blackboards for the link 'Back-to-School Night.' The teachers have listed all of the information that they would have discussed with you had you attended the evening session.

Red Bank Catholic and St. James Elementary School are closed.

Mater Dei Prep is closed. Friday will be a C day for all students.

Christian Brothers Academy is closed. Parent/Teacher Conferences are also cancelled.

Ranney School is closed.
