Manchester Students Fill 150 Thanksgiving Baskets For Needy

The collection effort was organized by the high school's peer leadership group and included help from the IMPACT clubs in the district.

MANCHESTER, NJ — More than 150 Manchester families had full Thanksgiving feasts thanks to the students of Manchester Township High School.

The Helping Hands for Hunger program organized by the students in the Peer Leadership organziation at Manchester Township High School. The students collected, packed and distributed food baskets filled with vegetables, stuffing, dessert, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, a frozen turkey, and more, the district said in a news release. School clubs and teams throughout the district contributed to the drive, along with local businesses and individuals. Lowe’s in Manchester partnered with the group as a collection point.

On Monday, Thanksgiving, student volunteers from the Impact Clubs at Manchester Middle School, Ridgeway Elementary School, Manchester Elementary School, and Whiting Elementary School, along with students from Regional Day School, gathered at the high school to pack the baskets.

Peer Leadership teacher Lisa Vecchione expressed gratitude to all who donated and volunteered and praised the students for their hard work.
