MANCHESTER, NJ — A Manchester Township woman was injured Tuesday afternoon when she was hit by a car as she tried to cross Route 530, Manchester police said.

Patricia Burke, 75, of the Whiting section, was hit shortly after 4:30 p.m. as she tried to cross Route 530 at Schoolhouse Road, Manchester Lt. Vincent Manco said.

Burke was sitting on the sidewalk at the intersection when police arrived. She had been hit by a white 2012 Ford Fusion driven by Patricia Keefe, 76, of Whiting.

Keefe was making a left turn from northbound Schoolhouse Road onto Route 530 when she hit Burke, who was in the crosswalk, Manco said. Keefe was driving slowly and her car knocked Burke to the ground.

A passerby stopped and helped Burke to the shoulder until police and EMS arrived. She was alert and complained of foot pain and was taken to Community Medical Center by Quality Medical Transport.

The investigation is ongoing, Manco said, but failing to yield to a pedestrian within a crosswalk has been determined to be the causing factor.

Patrolman Jesse Hoydis is investigating.
