Manchester Woman Hospitalized After Car Flips Following Route 37 Crash: Police

The preliminary investigation indicates she ran a red light, police said.

MANCHESTER, NJ — A Manchester Township woman was hospitalized following a two-car crash on Route 37 Wednesday afternoon, Manchester police said.

Susan Vogel, 74, of Manchester, had to be extricated from her vehicle by members of the Manchester and Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Companies and was taken by ambulance to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, Manchester Capt. Todd Malland said. Vogel sustained injuries to both of her arms as well as her right leg, he said.

She was driving a silver 2015 Nissan Sentra east on Route 37 when Vogel's Nissan collided with a tan 2011 Buick driven by Sondra Oliver, 83, of Boynton Beach, Florida, in the intersection with Buckingham Drive, Malland said. Oliver was not injured and refused medical attention, he said.

The preliminary investigation determined Vogel's Nissan went through the red signal at Route 37 and Buckingham, hitting Oliver's Buick, Malland said. The impact of the crash, which happened shortly after 2:30 p.m., caused Vogel's car to overturn and come to rest on its roof, he said.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and the Nissan had multiple airbag deployments, Malland said.
