Manchester Woman Hurt As Car Smashes Into Pizzeria: Police

The accident forced Lubrano's Pizzeria to close until repairs are made, police said.

MANCHESTER, NJ — A Manchester Township woman was injured Monday when her car smashed into the front of a pizzeria on Route 70, police said.

Ruth Aboff, 91,of Manchester, was taken to Community Medical Center, Toms River, with injuries that were not life-threatening, Manchester Capt. Todd Malland said.

The accident at Lubrano's Pizzeria in the Hudson City Plaza happened about 9:15 a.m., Malland said. Aboff was trying to back a silver 2011 Toyota Camry into a parking space when she backed into the passenger side of a brown 2010 Ford Edge, Malland said. She then hit the accelerator and drove forward, striking the parking block and the curb and going over the sidewalk before hitting the front of the pizzeria, he said.

The crash shattered the large glass window at the front of the restaurant as well as the metal support framing, Malland said. The restaurant was unoccupied at the time and no other injuries were reported, but the Manchester Township building inspector ordered it closed until structural repairs are made, Malland said.

Assisting at the scene were firefighters from the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company, and EMTs from Quality Medical Transport. Patrolman Jesse Hoydis and Patrolman Ian Bole are investigating.
