From The Mayor's Desk: Manchester To Honor American Heroes On Memorial Day

Manchester Mayor Ken Palmer hopes residents will turn out for the parade on Monday, May 25.

From the desk of Mayor Kenneth Palmer:

Please join me in honoring our American heroes on Monday, May 25 at the Memorial Day parade and ceremony at 10 a.m. at the World War II Veterans’ Memorial Park in Whiting. Groups participating in the parade should meet at Monroe and Bayonne avenues at 9:15 a.m.

Remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and take this opportunity to thank a veteran.

Millions of Americans have answered the call to serve and to protect America’s freedoms. On this date, we pay tribute to every one of those heroes.

Please pause and remember the veterans who have served in all of the wars to preserve the American way of life. Remember their sacrifice, their time away from family, hardships endured, injuries, and even death, to preserve our precious freedoms. And thank a Veteran.

After World War II, the federal holiday formerly known as Decoration Day, was changed to Memorial Day. The traditional date of May 30th was changed to the fourth Monday of May in 1971. We honor all Americans who served in our armed forces and pay tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice while serving.

Following recent days of turmoil, never forget that America is still the greatest nation on earth. And thank a veteran.

Manchester is home to many chapters and posts of veterans’ organizations. Take this opportunity to reach out, shake a hand and thank a veteran.

As you celebrate the start of the summer season, take a moment to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day. And thank a veteran.
