Motorcyclist Injured As 3 Deer Run In Front Of Him On Route 539 In Manchester

MANCHESTER, NJ — A Manchester Township teen was injured Thursday when he was thrown from his motorcycle after hitting three deer that ran into his path on Route 539, Manchester police said Friday.

Jose Vergara Suarez, 18, of Manchester, was riding a black 2021 Suzuki GSXR 750 motorcycle north on Route 539 about 7:40 p.m. when three deer ran into the road from the west near Harry Wright Boulevard, Capt. James Komsa said.

Vergara Suarez was thrown from the bike, which slid several hundred feet, shearing off the base of a traffic sign, before coming to a rest against the pole, Komsa said.

Vergara Suarez, who was wearing a Department of Transportation-approved motorcycle helmet, was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment of internal injuries, Komsa said. He was later discharged from the hospital.

The deer were located, and had died as a result of the impact, Komsa said.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department, Whiting Volunteer Fire Police, Manchester Emergency Medical Services, and paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson.

Sgt. Ian Bole of the Manchester Township Police Department Traffic Safety Unit is investigating.
