MANCHESTER, NJ — A Lakewood man died Sunday afternoon when he was thrown from his motorcycle during a crash in Whiting, Manchester police said.

Roland Same, 28, of Lakewood, was driving a 2012 Yamaha FZ8 motorcycle east on Pasadena Road about 3:40 p.m. at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the motorcycle near Mount Misery Road, Lt. Antonio Ellis said.

Same was thrown from the motorcycle and hit several trees, Ellis said. Same, who was wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash, sustained life-threatening injuries, he said.

Witnesses and good Samaritans who were already on the scene had begun cardiopulmonary resuscitation when Manchester police and Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived and took over attempts to save Same's life, Ellis said. He was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River where he was pronounced dead.

The motorcycle wound up near the wood-line on the grass, heavily damaged.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing, however, speed and driver error appear to be contributing factors, Ellis said. The crash is being investigated by Patrolman Jesse Hoydis and Patrolman Jose Diaz of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.

The road was closed during the investigation. Assisting at the scene were members of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Manchester Emergency Medical Services, Robert Wood Johnson paramedics, and Accurate Towing Service.

Manchester police issued a reminder, saying, "With the warm weather upon us and the increase in motorcycles traffic on the roadways, both riders and motorists are reminded to be aware of the presence of motorcycles. Please obey all traffic laws and arrive alive."
