Pine Lake Is Not Being Drained, Manchester Mayor Says

Fressola decries garbage found when water levels were temporarily lowered

Manchester residents who have been upset by what appeared to be the draining of Pine Lake have been misinformed, according to a notice sent by Mayor Michael Fressola earlier this week.

“Recently, we have received negative comments and complaints regarding our lowering of the water level of Pine Lake. The folks complaining were under the false impression that we were in the process of draining the lake. This is not the case,” the notice states.

“There are two main reasons for lowering the water level periodically and they are:

  • To complete a regularly required inspection of the dam.
  • Completely regrade and improve the beach area.

“In addition, we have recently become aware of a situation that is terribly disturbing and are in the process of resolving the issue, at least at this time. I am referring to the considerable amount of debris of all kinds along the shore line of the lake.

“Our intent in lowering the water level for a very short period of time has always considered the well-being of the fish population in the Lake. What should be really disturbing to all residents of Pine Lake Park, and in fact, all residents of Manchester, is that Pine Lake has become a dumping ground for discarded material depicted in photos taken this week.

“The clean up has just about been completed and the water level is being increased as I write this press release,” the notice stated.
