Postal Service Driver Seriously Injured In Route 70 Crash: PD

MANCHESTER, NJ —A U.S. Postal Service driver from Barnegat Township had to be airlifted to the hospital after a head-on crash with a pickup truck on Route 70 Tuesday, Manchester Township police said.

Robert B. Fash, 55, of Barnegat, was hospitalized at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, following the crash, which was reported at 4:22 p.m. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, Manchester Lt. Vincent Manco said.

Fash was driving the U.S. Postal Service truck, a 2001 Ford model, east on Route 70 Tuesday afternoon when his truck crossed the center line into the westbound in the area of milemarker 42 and hit a bronze 2014 Ford F150 pickup truck driven by Brian C. Fahey, 41, of Pemberton, Manco said.

The impact caused the F150 to go across the eastbound lane and it came to rest in the woods, he said. Fahey was taken to Community Medical Center, Toms River, for treatment; his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Manco said.

Route 70 was closed and traffic was diverted for approximately three hours during the investigation and cleanup.

Assisting at the scene were members of the Lakehurst Borough Police Department, Lakehurst and Whiting Volunteer fire departments, the state Department of Transportation Diversion Team, New Jersey State Police, Quality Medical Transport, and MONOC Paramedics. Patrolman Jesse Hoydis and Patrolman Michael O’Hara are investigating the crash.
