School District Adds In-Service Days, Delays End of Year in 2012-13
Changes made to accommodate staff training

The addition of training days approved Wednesday by Manchester members means students and staff will end their 2012-13 school year a few days later than previously thought.
Schools will be closed for students on Feb. 14 and 15, 2013, to accommodate in-service days for staff, a change that coincides with a state directive for the district to select a new way to evaluate educators.
"We've got two more professional development days during the school year," said Superintendent of Schools David Trethaway. "Those days will be primarily devoted to the teacher evaluation model, whichever one we pick."

The district is currently in the process of evaluating and selecting a new model for evaluations. Trethaway said that administrators are considering the Charlotte Danielson and Robert Marzano models — one must be selected by this December. Staff will hold the next teacher evaluation model meeting in August.
These two training days are in addition to one already scheduled for Oct. 8.

"It's important to note that the training won't be just those three days. It will be throughout the year," the superintendent said, adding that general staff and other meetings will be used for training.
The last day of school for students and staff was also moved. Classes for both will end on June 14, 2013, changed from June 12 for students and June 13 for staff.
"We'll be ending on the same day," Trethaway said.
