Shelter-In-Place At Manchester School Caused By Backfiring Car: Police

Police originally responded to reports of gunfire near the high school on Thursday, but determined it to be a backfiring car.

MANCHESTER, NJ — Manchester High School students and staff sheltered in place Thursday, as police investigated a report of shots fired that turned out to be a car backfiring.

Police told Patch that the report came in for shots fired on Route 37 and Colonial Drive, so the school was under a shelter-in-place as a precaution. Officers later determined that a car had backfired in the area, and no gunshots were fired.
