The accumulating snow that had dropped 5 inches in Manchester by 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, continued to fall hard after 6 p.m., leading Manchester Township and Lakehurst Elementary school officials to close schools on Friday.
The district does not build emergency closure days into its calendar, district public information officer Lee Bruzaitis said Thursday morning, meaning the four days snow days taken so far will have to be made up at some point to ensure students have the minimum 180 school days.

Those days could be made up at the end of the school year, subject to approval of the Board of Education.
The snow on Thursday had resulted in the postponement of opening night of the high school theatrical department presentation of the musical, ”Grease.”

There was no immediate word on whether Friday’s performance will be affected.
The announcement on the school’s website about the musical after Thursday’s closure reads as follows:
There will be a SATURDAY, MARCH 7th matinee showing of GREASE at 2 p.m. to honor all Thursday night ticket holders. All Thursday tickets will transfer to a Saturday matinee ticket. Thursday tickets holders will have the option of exchanging their tickets for a Friday or Saturday evening ticket (based on seat availability). A full refund will be given to patrons who are unable to attend the show due to a show cancellation. Please stay tuned for an updates and announcement regarding the status of the performance.
