Teen Injured When Car Flips In Manchester Crash

The 19-year-old was trying to make a left turn when her car was hit by one whose driver had a suspended license, police said.

MANCHESTER, NJ -- A New Egypt teen was injured Sunday morning when her car collided with another car and flipped on Lacey Road, police said.

Echo Jicha, 19, of New Egypt, was taken to Community Medical Center, Toms River, for treatment of lacerations to her hand and possible internal injuries, Manchester Capt. Todd Malland said. Those injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, he said.

Jicha was eastbound on Route 530 in a 1993 Buick Park Avenue, attempting to make a left turn onto Lacey Road, when her car collided with a 1998 Dodge Neon that was being driven westbound by Tyra Russell, 28, of Burlington City, Malland said.

After the impact, the Park Avenue overturned and landed on its roof in the right lane of travel on Lacey Road, Malland said. Jicha was initially trapped inside her car but was assisted out of the front driver's side window by an unidentified motorist prior to the arrival of the police and fire departments, he said.

Russell was uninjured but received summonses for operating her vehicle without a valid driver’s license and for having her driving privileges suspended at the time of the collision, he said.

The road was closed and traffic was detoured for more than an hour Sunday morning during the investigation. Assisting at the scene were members from the Whiting Volunteer Fire Department and Quality Medical Transport, Malland said.

Patrolman Ian Bole of the Manchester Police Traffic Safety Unit is investigating.
