There could come a time in the near future when conservatives will miss President Obama! Despite the years of right-wing hysterics over Obama the “socialist”, or the fall of America from Obamacare, or the constant cries of the sky is falling; the absence of Obama in 2016 will lay the conservatives unmasked and vulnerable. Their radical social agenda already cost them a chance of capturing the Senate or White House in 2012, but the future of Neo-Conservatives will be even darker as it becomes clear they still have nothing to offer but more of the same social and religious extremism that already failed.
Conservatives are intent on continuing their attack on women. In states like Texas and North Carolina, Radical Republicans have decided that if you don’t have the votes to pass an anti-abortion bill, you can just change the process. Texas Governor Perry simply cheated by changing the voting rules of the state legislature in an effort to pass a bill that would make it impossible for women in his state to access all sorts of medical care they need and deserve. In addition, his bill would completely ban abortions after 20 weeks. “Texas Republicans are trying to put in place costly restrictions to solve a problem that doesn't exist: The number of abortions after 20 weeks is small (less than 2%) and are most often sought by women in desperate circumstances, exactly the kind of cases that require close attention by doctors, not sweeping prohibitions by ideological politicians”, that according to the CNN article, Texas GOP Skirts Law on Anti-Abortion Bill.
Suddenly everywhere you look, you see news about a Republican controlled state rolling back women’s reproductive rights. A resurgence of a national women’s rights movement is just under the surface. All that is necessary to start the process is an intelligent and articulate leader like State Sen. Wendy Davis in Texas and her “filibuster heard round the world”. Of course there is another possibility, a Democratic Presidential Candidate like Hillary Rodham Clinton could become the standard bearer for the women’s rights movement and that would mean disaster for the GOP for many years to come.

As for the issue of immigration, is there any bridge to immigration reform left that the conservatives have not already burned? Proposing a pathway to citizenship to a conservative is like pouring water on the wicked witch in the Land of OZ, they melt into a pile on the floor. It’s not the idea of citizenship that frightens conservatives; rather it is the right to vote attached to citizenship that they fear the most. There is no denying it; Republicans believe immigrants will vote with the Democratic Party. Now that may be so, but not for the self-serving reasons the conservatives tout. There is a greater force at work when it comes to immigrants than just partisan politics. Immigrants by their very nature are progressive, to leave your home and come to a strange new land in search of a better life for your family is by far the most progressive and courageous life decision one can make. We are more and more a land of progressive immigrants and not a land of old, white, conservative males. It doesn’t matter what voting barriers the Republicans put in place to prevent the poor, minorities, or immigrants from voting, in the end they will lose and Democracy will win.
A day will come when the conservative narrative, fabricated with hypocrisy and deception, will be nothing but a bad memory. America will again focus on what is good and right; Obamacare fear mongering will be replaced by genuine concern for patient care, the contributions made by recent immigrants will be shown the respect they deserve, school teachers will be appreciated for the courage to protect their children at any price and no longer be called union thugs, insuring women’s rights and health will again be a national priority, the fight for human rights and equality will mean more than just wearing a flag pin on your lapel, and conservative anti-Obama hatred will be replaced by a New Progressive Era.
