MANCHESTER, NJ -- If you are considering prepaying your 2018 property taxes, the Manchester Township Tax Collector's Office says time is running out to do so.As a result of the tax bill signed into law last week that changes the tax code, the deduction for state and local taxes -- including property taxes -- is now limited to $10,000. As a result, many people are seeking to prepay their 2018 property taxes to maximize their state and local tax deduction for 2017. "Yes, we are accepting prepayments, but it is up to the individual taxpayer to check with their tax professionals as to whether this is a legitimate deduction in the current year," said Andrea Gaskill, Manchester Township's tax collector. Gaskill said payment would need to be received in the tax collector's office either in person or by way of mail by 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 29. Online payments would need to be processed by Thursday night to ensure that it is counted in the 2017 tax year, she said.Gaskill said people should check with their tax adviser to make sure this will benefit them.Image via Shutterstock
