This Week In Manchester: School Board Meeting; Common Core Discussion; Downton Abbey Event

The popular TV show has a companion book; meet the author at the library Saturday

The third full week of 2015 begins with the federal holiday today marking the birthday of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Federal, state, county and local government offices are closed today. There will be no mail delivery.

The township’s schools are closed as well.

Today, the Manchester branch of the Ocean County Library is marking King’s birthday with a Martin Luther King Junior Day of Service. For children ages 9 to 12, the event begins at 2 p.m. Children can volunteer in the children’s department and earn some volunteer hours.

On Wednesday, the Board of Education meets at 7:30 p.m. in the media center at the Ridgeway Elementary School.

On Thursday, the school district is hosting a parent session on the Common Core standards from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Ridgeway School. Register by clicking this link.

On Saturday, fans of of the television show Downton Abbey will have the opportunity to meet Jessica Fellowes, author of “A Year in the Life of Downton Abbey,” the companion book to the show. The event, at the Toms River branch of the library, includes a public book signing event that is free, as well as a VIP event.
