As rain continues to move into the area Monday morning, temperatures are expected to be at or above freezing, the forecast says, but because it has been so cold in recent days, that could make it easier for ice to form on in some locations. In addition to the potential for icy roads, sidewalks and driveways could be icy as well.
Barnegat and Ocean Township (Waretown) officials have had local roads treated with brine as a precaution, according to a news release from the town.

A south wind is expected to help push temperatures high enough to make the morning precipitation all rain. Areas north and west of Ocean County are under a winter weather advisory with sleet probable and snow possible, the service says.
Temperatures in the county will continue to rise to near 40 degrees by mid-morning, according to National Weather Service forecasters.

Temperatures could fall enough Monday evening to cause the rain to switch over to ice and/or snow before ending late Monday night, forecasters said.
