A 48-year-old Whiting man has been arrested and charged with eluding, driving while intoxicated and other offenses after police said he attempted to flee from a traffic stop.
Police said they observed Martin McLernon, 48, allegedly almost cause an accident around 6:15 p.m., at the intersection of County Route 530 and Schoolhouse Road.
When Patrolman Jason Wiener pulled the suspect vehicle over in the area of Hope Road, and Fairway Lane a short time later, the operator, later identified as McLernon, allegedly put his car in gear and fled the scene.

A short pursuit was initiated and terminated when the driver pulled into a driveway on Fairway Lane, police said.
McLernon was subsequently arrested. He was released pending a court appearance.
