MANVILLE, NJ — The Manville School District is preparing for a leadership change after Superintendent Dr. Jamil Maroun submitted his resignation, according to a letter from Manville Board of Education President Tina Breen.
Breen told the school community that Maroun will be leaving the district after 10 years of service, including the last five years as superintendent.
Breen said many in the community remember Maroun arriving in Manville a decade ago as principal of Roosevelt School.
He later served as assistant superintendent before moving into the district's top role.
In her letter, Breen wrote, "While we are saddened to lose an exceptional leader, we are filled with immense gratitude for the ten years of unwavering dedication he has given to our students, staff, families, and community."
The board credited Maroun with leading a period of growth in the district.
In the letter, Breen wrote, "Under Dr. Maroun's leadership, the Manville School District has experienced significant growth and progress."
She also stated, "His vision, dedication, and steady leadership have strengthened our schools and created opportunities that have positively impacted our students and staff."
The Board of Education said it has already started the process of finding the district's next superintendent.
According to the letter, board members have received training in superintendent search and evaluation processes, and several current members have prior experience participating in superintendent searches and appointments.
Breen told the community that Maroun will remain in place during the transition.
"Dr. Maroun will continue to serve the district through our transition, and we will share additional information as it becomes available," she wrote.
The board said it plans to look for a leader who can build on the district's current foundation and continue its goals and priorities.
Breen wrote that the board's focus during the search will remain on "providing the highest-quality educational experience for our students and on ensuring the continued success of our schools."
The letter did not give a reason for Maroun's resignation or say when his departure will take effect.
