MANVILLE, NJ — Manville School District Superintendent Dr. Jamil Maroun announced he is resigning from his position after nearly 10 years with the district to accept a new professional opportunity, he said in a statement shared with the community.
Maroun joined the Manville School District in 2016 as principal of Roosevelt School and was elevated to superintendent five years ago. In his farewell message, he reflected on a decade of milestones that included navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, the loss of students and staff members, and the devastation of Hurricane Ida.
"Manville became home," Maroun said in a video message to the community. "What began as a professional opportunity quickly became something much more meaningful."
Under his tenure, the district completed two capital improvement referendums, expanded preschool programming, modernized facilities district-wide, and was recognized at the state and national level for excellence and innovation.
Maroun also cited the district's early adoption of the science of reading, expanded partnerships with institutions including Raritan Valley Community College, and sustained success in athletics, music, theater, and the arts.
"Every single space — from roofs to boilers to classrooms to libraries to doors to auditoriums and offices and lights — have been improved," he said.
Maroun credited the community, staff, families, and students for the district's accomplishments, saying the gains were the result of collective effort rather than individual leadership. He said he remains confident in the district's future.
"The foundation has been built over the past several years, and that foundation is strong," he wrote.
No successor has been announced. Maroun closed his message with the district's guiding mission: every child, every day.
